Curriculum

General Information about the Curriculum

Our aim at Crooksbarn Primary is to develop the full potential of all children in our care. We offer every child a broad and balanced curriculum ensuring continuity and progression throughout their Primary years.

We aim to develop through:-
* Language, communications and listening skills – an ability to read and find pleasure in books;
* Maths – an understanding of number concepts which will help them to live and work in an adult world;
* Science, Geography, History & R.E. – an understanding of the world in which we live;
* Art – to develop a capacity to perceive and respond to a wide range of sensory experience, encouraging imagination and creativity, a sensitivity to and appreciation of the world around us.

In addition, we hope that when our children move on to secondary education they will take with them a tolerance for the opinions and circumstances of others, self-confidence, perseverance and the experiences of having nurtured warm, sincere and honest relationships towards their peers as well as to adults within home, school and the community.

We wish your child ultimately to become a happy and fulfilled member of society.

Our very young children in the Foundation Stage have access to a variety of learning experiences which are the foundation of their intellectual, physical, aesthetic and creative development.

Children from Y1 upwards have a broad outline of their curriculum laid down by the National Curriculum. All work planned by the teachers from this stage onwards is geared towards fulfilling the National Curriculum Programmes of Study.
